Weekly Wrap-Up – MNB Challenge Week 3

Week 3 of the Move, Nourish, Believe Challenge by Lorna Jane is complete and that wraps up this challenge.

This last week focused on the Believe portion of the Lorna Jane Philosophy. I was looking forward to this week as I am generally on top of my nutrition and exercising but I don’t spend time working on my mental health. Which, can be just as important as the other two in terms of your overall health.

Monday MNB Challenge: Spoil yourself, do something just for you today.

Monday was a holiday here, so I decided to take a holiday from working out and spoiled myself by cuddling up on the couch watching one of my favourite Olympics events, ice dance, while having a delicious chai tea latte.

Tuesday MNB Challenge: 5 Mindful Minutes. – Do your body good, meditate for 5 minutes and find your zen.

Work was a crazy busy day after the long weekend. I then went for my New Rules of Lifting for Women workout. Afterwards, I walked home and almost biffed about 6 times on the very, very icy sidewalks. By the time I got home I was so ready to find my zen. I took my 5 minutes to meditate and afterwards had some green tea for further calming and zen.

Wednesday MNB Challenge: Be Happy – Show us your happy place.

Wednesday, I had a work potluck because one of our Physical Therapists is retiring. I finished the potluck at 3. At 3:15, I left work and headed out for a 4 mile run. Worst. Idea. Ever. Oh boy I did not feel good during that run. But regardless, I finished it! Afterwards, I sure wish I could have been in my happy place!

My happy place is Fairmont Hot Springs, British Columbia. As a kid, we went to Fairmont every single summer. Going to Fairmont was always the highlight of the year, I looked forward to it way more than Christmas! When I met Tom, I shared with him how much I loved Fairmont and took him there a few times. And then knowing how much that place meant to me, it’s where he proposed! I cannot wait until we head back there this summer.

Thursday MNB Challenge: Thankful Thursday – Let us know what you’re thankful for

Thursday, I finished Stage 3 of the New Rules of Lifting for Women. (Check out the recap here) Of course I was thankful for that but more importantly, I had to shout out to all my family and friends who mean the world to me.

Friday MNB Challenge: Share the love – Shoutout to your #1 supporter/motivator

Friday I went for a 5 km run. For my shoutout I knew immediately it would have to be for Tom! Tom is an incredibly driven person. He has such desire to achieve in all aspects of his life and that motivates me to be better as well. And he is absolutely my biggest supporter. Anytime I want to do something, he is totally on board and asking how can I help. I truly feel I wouldn’t take the same chances or risks if I didn’t have him behind me and I am so, so thankful for that.

And with that, the MNB challenge was wrapped up. It was a great challenge and though its over I will definitely take the key messages and continue with the move, nourish, believe philosophy! There will be a wrap-up Twitter party, taking place on 6pm (MST). I’ll be there! Make sure you follow me and join in the fun. The winner of the challenge will also be announced then (pick me, pick me!)

Saturday I went for my long run, 10 miles. The weather is getting really cold again this weekend, so I took this run inside. I was having one of those days where my body was tired. My muscles felt sore and I had to fight for every single mile I ran. Yet somehow, when I finished up, I took at look at my watch and saw 1:36, that’s under my 10 minute mile goal! I don’t know how that happened but I will take it!

And now today, I woke up at 5 a.m. to catch the Men’s Gold Medal Hockey game. And in case you didn’t hear the cheers across the nation, we won!!! Totally worth the early wake up call to be able to see that game. I am so proud to call myself a Canadian, and of course ecstatic that we showed the world, once again, that hockey is our game!

Now I’m heading out to Hot Yoga. It was my plan to go to yoga at least once a week but I haven’t been in weeks! It’s the one workout that always gets pushed aside by other priorities. But after this “believe” week, I tried to remind myself how important yoga is to me for stress relief and mental health. So I am going to try and make it a priority.

How was your week? Did you do anything for your mental health? Were you up at a ridiculous hour on a Sunday to watch the hockey game?
